Neil also has his flaws and his own reasons for wanting to win the scavenger hunt, and I enjoyed his complexity. Rowan has a dream of becoming a romance author, but she is afraid of what her parents will think since they are authors themselves, and there is an important discussion of how books in the romance genre are seen as lesser. She has her flaws and makes mistakes, including getting too caught up in her rivalry with Neil, but she truly develops throughout the novel. The book discusses many serious topics including antisemitism, but it is also filled with adorable moments which creates a nice balance. Competition as well as the enemies to lovers trope are two of my favourite things in YA, and I loved getting to explore Seattle with the characters. However, in the interest of both of them surviving the game, they decide to team up and realize they may not hate each other as much as they had thought.
